Inkscape: How Draw A Straight Line?

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Open' state without activity for the last 15 days.

I thought this was a place to get answers about Inkscape.

Use the Bezier curve pen (F6). Single-click where you want to start the line and double-click where you want the line to end. If you hold down the Ctrl key and move your mouse while placing the end point, the line will snap to multiples of 15-degree angles, so it is easy to get perfectly horizontal or perfectly vertical straight lines.

Yes, I struggled a long time with this too, and there is nothing in the documentation about drawing lines!

The problem is that the pencil tool is mislabelled: it says "freehand line", but in fact it draws straight lines as well, not just freehand lines. Just use that: click where you want the line to start, hold control if necessary, and click where you want the line to end.

So, the only way to insert a line is to use the pencil tool for "freehand line" -- is this correct?

No, you can draw lines (paths with a single straight line segment) with the pen tool too.

Ok, thanks -- I am trying to add lines in Videoscribe -- which does not have this function. So, trying to just create a line, save it to
SVG file, and import it -- but it is not importing correctly anyway. Kind of a mess, which I hope they can fix. Lots of bugs and missing features.
