How do I keep line width constant during transforms

When I extend a line, its width varies to scale; I want to set the width as a constant.

When you select your line with the selection tool (F1), there are 4 buttons on the right side of the toolbar (after the word "Affect"). The first of those controls whether stroke width scales with the object (the tooltip explains this).

Thanks. It took me awhile to figure out which "toolbar" I could show or hide from the View menu---and now I know what a "tooltip" is and where to look for it.
