First, please note that the Hershey Text extension ( http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/hershey ) is not an "official" Inkscape extension, but is a "contributed" extension, not officially supported by the Inkscape project.

That said, the Hershey Text extension is installed in the same way as all other Inkscape extensions. (I'm not sure if there is an up-to-date FAQ that lists the procedure for different platforms. Answers admins: If you can suggest one, I'd appreciate it.)

First, download and unzip the extension archive, which contains three files.

Second: copy those three files to a specific location on your hard drive, and that location depends on which type of computer you use.

> On Windows: Copy the three files into: C:\Program Files\Inkscape\share\extensions\
( Assuming that your Inkscape is located at C:\Program Files\Inkscape )

> On Linux: "/usr/share/inkscape/extensions" OR in ~/.config/inkscape/extensions/

> On Mac OS X: "/Applications/Inkscape.app/Contents/Resources/extensions" OR in ~/.config/inkscape/extensions/
To get to either location on the Mac, use the Finder's "go to folder" feature, in the Go menu

Third: Restart Inkscape, or launch it if it was not already running. If the files are in the correct location, Hershey text should now show up in the Extensions>Render submenu.
