Inkscapes menues are in Danish. I want English. How?

Asked by Berthe Willumsen

I downloaded Inkscape on my Mac and on the Parallels Windows partition. In the PC I was asked to chose language. In Mac OSX, the language in the menus is Danish - which I hate (although a Dane). I cannot find where to change it? I can't even find preferences - but I might not recognize it if it is in Danish....'Foretrukne'? Indstillinger?

Please check the setting in 'Language & Text > Language > Order for sorted text': in Inkscape, it might override the preferred language setting for the menus.

If the order of sorted lists is not 'Danish', this seems the same issue reported by several users - those that provided feedback told that the language setting reported from the OS X system to Inkscape returned to the expected default after one or more reboots/logins.

From what information has been provided it is unclear but apparently an issue outside of Inkscape where temporarily the OS X system preferences have changed (possibly due to installing some other applications).

If for whatever reason the default doesn't return after reboot(s), you can override the system default language setting inside Inkscape in 'File > Inkscape preferences > Interface > Language' (in Dansk: Fil > Inkscape-indstillinger > Interface > Language') - you can also use the keyboard shortcut 'Shift+Ctrl+P' to open the preferences window.

In SysPrefs I had/have *English' in 'Language & Text > Language > Order for sorted lists' (no sorted text).
I will quit a few times, reboot and see what happens and report back to close here.
- And I have managed to use your instructions to find the language setting - interestingly, the text in the Interface-dialog is English.... Others also, though 'Trin's has Danish.

Thanks for prompt suggestions.

I how have English and am happy. However, since I happened to leave the language setting in Interface > Language as English, it was not so surprising that it was English after a restart (also of X11).
I changed it back to 'system default', and it remains English after yet another restart (also X11), so my problem is solved.
- but no info as to reboots for forcing it to see the system default. Weird that it saw any connection to Denmark at all?....
