save photos without losing resolution

I have some images in a Word Document that I want to save in a format such that i don't lose any resolution. Can inkscape do this?

It can but it's not really the right tool for the job - it's kinda like using a spade as a hammer, it can bang nails in but ...

I'd recommend Paint.NET if you're using MS Windows though I used to use The GIMP but it's more complex. You should be able to cut and paste into either app and then save in a lossless format - PNG is probably best but you can look up on Wikipedia and decide which lossless raster format is best.
