Calligraphy tool angle 90 degrees off with tilt sensitive tablet

Asked by Juha Lento

The line drawn by the dip pen is thin in the direction perpendicular to the shaft and thick in the direction parallel to the shaft. Now the Calligraphy tool works the opposite way, line is thick in the direction perpendicular to the shaft and thin in the direction parallel to the shaft, when using tilt sensitive stylus (Wacom Intuos4, Windows 32 bit, Inkscape 0.48). Otherwise it works great, just that 90 degrees off :) Easy to see with larger tip width and fixation 100%.

Possibly the same issue as described in Bug #172219 “Calligraphy pen: optionally rotate tablet tilt by 90deg”?

Yes, the same issue. This issue can be marked as dublicate.

I would go as far as saying that the tilt sensitivity is useless for traditional calligraphy until this is fixed. The fix suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/172219 in which the fixed angle tip is added to the angle calculated from the stylus tilt is great. That would cover different type of pens. Just swapping the x and y tilt axes in the calcutaion of the angle would work for traditional calligraphy, too.

Hmm, you didn't file an issue - you asked a question in the 'Answers' section… these two sections of Launchpad are separate, but relations of questions to bug reports can be made: I'll link you question to bug #172219. This means you will get subscribed to the bug report automatically and will receive any updates about the bug status or new comments added there.
