Eraser tool when used on a pencil line,..closes the shape!! WHY!!???!!???

Asked by Todd Dolce

Whenever I use the eraser tool to erase part of a pencil line,....the line then turns into a close shape. WHY???? I mean who in the world would want that to happen? Anyway,....I know this sounds kind of harsh,..but it is a very frustrating issue for me. Is there a way to turn that feature off so that the eraser actually indeed works like an eraser? If not, is there a patch in the making to fix this problem? Please tell me that there is a solution in the works.

Thanks.

I should have prefaced my message here with a compliment. Truthfully,....I LOVE what I have seen with Inkscape thus far and all of you folks that have had a hand in its' development and maturation should be commended for the wonderful work that you've done. But please,....dear God,....fix that eraser tool.

Thanks again,

Todd

I don't remember using the eraser tool in previous versions of Inkscape. Perhaps it's new, and that would explain why it's not polished yet. It does seem a bit odd. I have the same issue here in the latest development version.

I've searched for this issue in the bugs section, but couldn't find any mention of this bug. If you don't care to add this as a bug report I think I will.

Oh just noticed there was already a linked bug, and I can't remove the above comment. Oh well.
