formatting text--paragraphs, bullets, indents etc.

Asked by HaYDN Jensen

Hi. I am a new inkscape user and generally really like the program. However, I'm frustrated that there aren't very many options for formatting text. I was looking for controls for styles, underlining, paragraph indents & spacing, bullets & numbering. It would be an excellent upgrade to have a "Word"-like feature set available. For brochure and poster design, fast and easy ways to work with text is very helpful.
otherwise, great program.
thanks

Inkscape is a great vector-image editor, but you're straying into desktop-publishing territory there. You might want to consider a more appropriate tool for the job, such as Scribus. That'll give you plenty of text-formatting options, and you can even import Inkscape files for the graphics.

thanks for the answer. I really don't understand the difference between vector-image editing and desktop-pub-- just want a good application for working with text, pictures and creating nice looking stuff for print. Inkscape reminded me of Corel Draw that I used years ago, so I figured it was the appropriate app. Thanks. Good luck with your continued efforts with Inkscape.

Hi, I just installed the latest scribus and tested it out, for exactly this reason, and no bullet points is not easily supported in scribus. Its the same thing, you have to try figure out how to install a script, and run the script to replace certain text strings with bullets. This would be a very handy feature to have, as well as text indentation.
The only real solution is to manual insert bullets, and have lots of text boxes, which is so tedious.
I think saying use scribus is passing the buck.
