creating pattern along path

Asked by Lynne Brotherton

Very new to this, but I am trying to create a rhinestone template using the star and putting the circles around the outside of the star. I go to the extensions and use snake and repeated and apply, but then get a message that the extensions require two selected paths. What am I doing wrong. I know this is a simple process but I am just not getting it. Sorry . Lynne

Convert the Circle and Star (Shapes) to Paths, using the Top Line PATH menu.... >Path >Object to Path, then run the edit again..

Not strictly required - the extension 'Pattern along Path' can handle Inkscape's shapes like rectangle, star/polygon or ellipse/circle well (unlike the similar path effect), and also groups - retested with Inkscape 0.47 and 0.48.

@Lynne - did you have both objects (the star and the circle) selected? You also have to make sure that the object to be used as pattern is above (in z-order) the path to be used as skeleton.

Thanks for both replies. It worked. I had them both selected but didn't use the object to path. Thank you again for such a fast response. Lynne
