Trace bitmap feature in version 0.48

Asked by Larrie

Hello,
I recently downloaded a newer version of Inkscape. I had version 0.46 and upgraded to 0.48....It seems the trace bitmap brightness cuttoff feature doesn't work or doesn't work the same as the other version.....Is there a fix for this? When I click on it to preview the preview screen goes blank.....I tried adjusting the threshold but nothing worked....the edge dectection works....
Thanks,
  Larrie

Which platform are you working on? AFAIK there have been no changes to the bitmap tracing code. Did you have the bitmap image selected in all tests? (When clicking the 'OK' button, the bitmap gets traced and the inserted (group of) paths are selected. To trace again, you have to reselect the bitmap image, else the preview stays empty).

At least on Mac OS X, I get exactly the same result in both versions (Inkscape 0.46 and 0.48) when tracing a bitmap with 'Brightness cutoff' (or with 'Edge detection'), using default values.

Confirmed on Windows XP. Tracing still works, but the preview window is blank when I click on the update button.

The trace bitmap code hasn't changed, but some dependencies have been updated.

Sorry, I misread the bug report I mentioned in my previous comment - seems like a regression in Inkscape 0.48 on Windows?

Yes, it works well with 0.47.
