How to edit pattern dialogue box?

Asked by Raymond Smith

I am running inkscape-0.46 on a Debian system. I have a problem with patterns. Inkscape crashes when one changes the pattern. It will create a new pattern ok but one cannot edit the name of the pattern or delete the plethora of stripe patterns that are already there. Is there a script somewhere that I can change to rectify any of this?

Hi, Raymond

It's time to move on new version! 0.48 just arrived with bunch of brand new
features and tons of bugfixes :)

Note that Inkscape 0.48 has no GUI yet for editing / adding / removing / renaming the stock patterns that ship with Inkscape.

More information about patterns:
<http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Attributes-Fill-Stroke.html#Attributes-Patterns>
<http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/TilePattern.html>

An example for adding a custom pattern to the stock pattern file:
<http://ffaat.pointclark.net/blog/archives/143-Creating-and-Adding-Custom-Patterns-to-Inkscape.html>

You can edit the name of custom patterns in the current file via 'Edit > XML Editor' -> the pattern definitions are stored in the <defs> section of the file.

I have tried to compile 0.48 but I need to download a lot of updates to the system. The package manager has not yet got the most modern dependencies. However, I am sure you are right and I will eventually get it going. Thanks for the suggestion.
