Improvement of "fit page to selection"

Asked by bjorn

Proposal for improvement:

Add input box to set additional margin during "fit page to selection".

I often use the "Fit page to selection" function in the document properties dialog.
This feature is nice when producing illustrations but it would be handy to have an extra
input box allowing additional margin to be added.

Today I do the "fit page to selection", manually enlarge the page, select all objects in all
layers (after unlocking some layers) and group them. Do align to page center/center and
finally clean up by ungroup and protect layers by lock etc....

When text on path is used the above does not work since the align center/center seems to affect
something corrupting the text on path so then I have to things even more manual.

Extra margins is good for the appearance and necessary when exporting svg to emf and other formats since font scaling then causes portions of the content to drop outside the bounding box.

Hi,

This new feature is already implemented in Inkscape 0.48.
This version is not yet out (it is just a question of days or weeks now), but you can test a development [1] or a pre-release [2] version.
