This sort of question can be answered most easily if you upload an SVG file that you've tried sending to the Mac and can't access properly. We can look and see if we can spot anything wrong with the file then ...

An example of an online file upload facility is http://www.easy-share.com/ (Google for more if you like). I can't warrant this or any others and you shouldn't upload files you don't have copyrights to or that you want to keep private.

Screenshots of Inkscape rendering the same file on both Windows and Mac OS X could also be helpful to further investigate the problem, besides making a sample SVG file available (you could also use the free image hosting service <http://imgh.us/> which accepts and serves SVG files).

some comments:
1) missing fonts:
Most likely the issue is related to fonts named differently on each platforms or not available inside Inkscape (Inkscape 0.47 on the Mac does not load any fonts from '/System/Library/Fonts' - for example Inkscape 0.47 does not have the font 'Helvetica' available, and if it substitutes 'Helvetica CY' or 'Helvetica Neue' instead, the text will use a different character spacing in Inkscape on the Mac.

2) linked vs. embedded images:
Importing bitmap images into Inkscape 0.47 does not embed images but links them with absolute path references into the file: these paths need to be changed when transferring both the SVG file and the linked bitmap files to a new location or another platform (use the 'Image Properties' dialog in the context menu of a selected (missing) image to change the path) or embed bitmap images before transferring the file to another computer ('Extensions > Images > Embed all Images…')

3) Transfer method
How did you transfer the files from Windows to Mac? Note that a ("bad") email client might change the encoding of an attached SVG file when saving it - it's just a plain text file in UTF-8 after all. Did you try to transfer it as zipped archive?
