paths converted to and exported as x y files

Asked by David Hindle

Hi,

Is there any way to extract the x y coordinates of a path (particularly a bezier curve) - i.e. just the nodes and their xy position in arbitrary units within the drawing - and write these to a file?

There are a series of filter for Illustrator that I had just begun to use and found tremendously useful.

(www.telegraphics.com.au/sw/) who produce a 'pathtotext' filter, a pathlength filter and a patharea filter.

Does anything like it exist for inkscape?

Many thanks

David Hindle

Thanks

Yes I was aware of this. However, I was really looking for something that automatically extracts just the nodes (for instance) from a path and writes them pairwise as x,y coordinates to a file.

The xml paths that appear in the editor seem to contain more information than this and I am unable to understand which coordinates exactly they are expressed in (they do not match the screen x,y coordinates I can see when using the program),

I will assume therefore that a filter such as pathtotext does not exist.

Many thanks

Maybe the extensions recently attached in a this Inkscape Forum topic are useful to you , too (even though some time has pasted since you asked your question and you probably have found other methods to extract the node coordinates):
- Exporting Nodes Coordinates (InkscapeForum.com):

Optionally using custom units isn't implemented, but maybe one of the authors would be willing to enhance the script?
