Are you referencing the Bezier Tool in Spiro Mode, with the Shape set to Triangle In/Out?

note: The Spiro mode & shape are set in the Tool Controls Bar (bar above the canvas)

If yes, draw your Bezier Spiro Mode path (traingle in/out) and with your Spiro Selected, open the Path Effects Editor Menu, via >Path>Path Effects Editor...

The Menu will have two Effects loaded 1. Spiro Spline 2. Pattern Along Path. Select the Pattern Along Path Effect then set the "Width" from 1.0 to a Higher Number, this will make your Spiro path wider.

There is NO elipse MODE.. there are FOUR modes for the Bezier tool

1. Regular Bezier Paths (Curves and Lines)
2. Spiro Paths
3. Line Segments
4. Paraxial Line Segments

In the Tool Controls Bar there is an additional feature to select the SHAPE of your path. The SHAPE is where you would set it to Elipse, Triangle IN/OUT, None, Clipboard.

Either way even if you are in the MODE: Regular Bezier Path and SHAPE: Elipse, Once you create your Elipsed (Pattern Along Path) path you should still be able to open the >Path >Path Effects Editor... and change the WIDTH of the 'Pattern Along Path" effect that is applied whenever your SET a SHAPE to your path/segement..

extract from the manual (path creation):
"Shape: Applies a shape to the path after it is drawn. This is equivalent to using the Pattern Along Path LPE in Single, stretched mode."
