Inkscape crashes every time I start it (Ubuntu 10.04)

Asked by Daniel

(I'm new here...)
Yesterday Inkscape works really fine and all features worked without problems but today it suddenly seems that it don't really want to start again...
It just keep saying: "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now."
I'm using the Inkscape-version 0.47 on Ubuntu 10.04.

Does anyone have an idea to get it running?
Or does anyone have the same problem?

thx in advance

Does Inkscape also crash when starting it empty (without opening a file)? If so, can you try these steps to launch Inkscape with default settings (possibly your preferences file is corrupt):

in the terminal:

 cd ~/.config/inkscape
 mv preferences.xml preferences-prev.xml
 inkscape

It renames your current preferences file and lets inkscape recreate a new one containing default settings for all preferences. If this doesn't help you can delete the new file and restore the previous version by renaming it back.

If the crash still happens, any console output you get in the terminal might give valuable hints about the cause.
