Not a bug but a request

Asked by Candy Quiles

I want to convert a bitmap picture into a rhinestone dot pattern. I tried all ways but can't figure it out.
I have spent hours of many days and can't figure out how to have the dots line up evenly spaced along the outline. I know this can be done, there is a video on Yourtube but I am missing something. Every time I go to Generate from path., pattern along path it keeps giving me an error "This extension requires two selected paths." What does this mean?
I have the imiage trace Bitmap. Now what do I do to make dots along the bitmap?
Respectfully,
Candy Quiles

Moving this report from the bug tracker to the 'Answers' section because it is a not a request for a new feature but for user support.

@Candy - could you please provide the link(s) to the tutorial(s) you are trying to follow?

Wouldn't it be easier to simply change the path's stroke to be dots rather than trying to apply a pattern. I'm assuming you're trying to mark where the rhinestones should be fixed - Ctrl+Shift+F will give the stroke dialog, choose Stroke Style tab and then under dashes make a selection to put the rhinestones at your chosen spacing. Adjusting the offset will allow you to tweak the placement to get the dots nearer to points/corners in your pattern (etc.).

If you want finer control over the dot size and spacing you can use the XML editor (Ctrl+Shift+X) to set the style attributes, particularly you'll want to set the stroke width and the stroke-dasharray attributes (first number is the dash length, set the same as stroke width for a square point, the second number is the dash spacing).

Hope that helps.
