Preferences.xml not valid. Input device

In the Input Device dialog, the combo box appear with extrange symbols. I get the tablet working, but after this the following time I star it appears a message about the Preferences.xml not valid.
When I edit the preferences.xml the editor tells me about not valid characters in it. mIt seems as if the input device dialog damages the file preferences.xml.
