Is your clip art open? Can I resell the images?

Asked by Tanya Mewhirter

Hello there

I am starting a kids clothing label company and wanted to know if I, legally, can resell the clip art images from Inkscape and/or Launchpad.

Thank you much,
Tanya Mewhirter

If you're importing from the Open Clip Art Library, then reselling the images is perfectly legal, because they are all public domain images.

From the Open Clip Art 'About' page:
"This project aims to create an archive of clip art that can be used for free for any use.
"All graphics submitted to the project should be placed into the Public Domain according to the statement by the Creative Commons."
http://www.openclipart.org/about

Of course, clip art you use from other sources may be under a different licence. The Creative Commons website lists some of the popular ones to look out for that allow commercial use.

Thank you for the reply. Your question partially answered my question. When I downloaded Inkscape a bunch of clip art automatically was sent to my clip art library ... can I use these to resell?

Thank you for your information.

What exactly clipart are sent to your library?? Inkscape haven't feature to
save any 3-rd party clipart automatically.

Cheers.
