Error mssg when opening Inkscape Relate to Q #92134

Asked by Scottie

When I click to open iNKSCAPE .47 I get this message:
The preferences file C:\Users\scottie\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\preferences.xml is not a valid XML document.
I read the solution is to delete it. However, I am using Windows 7 and I can't find the AppData file under my user name so I don't know how to get to the right place to delete. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I haven't got Windows 7, but on Windows XP the appdata directory is hidden (Microsoft doesn't like to make things too easy for us), so I guess this is also the case on Windows 7.

There should be an option to show hidden directories in Windows Explorer. On Windows XP this option is: Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> Show hidden files and folders.

Alternatively, you should be able to delete the preferences file from the command prompt, with the command:

del C:\Users\scottie\AppData\Roaming\inkscape\preferences.xml

Well, those little devils. Why does Microsoft want to make it so hard for inexperienced users. Thank you for your help. Just as you said, AppData file was hidden. Now I can fix some other problems now that I know where it is. You are a life saver. Thanks again.
