change the inkscape theme

Asked by vanheber

I like to do a alternative theme for inkscape. Not only change the icons, but the colors and backgrounds of bars and boxes. Is possible inside Mac OSX?

Inkscape is great, a really alternative to Illustrator, but is ugly.

a) icons are loaded from the file 'icons.svg', located inside the application bundle in 'Contents/Resources/icons'. You can open and edit (a copy of) the file with Inkscape.
b) to change the overall theme I guess you'd have learn some basics about GTK+ themes first. The resource file for Inkscape's currently used theme is 'Contents/Resources/themes/Clearlooks-Quicksilver-OSX/gtk-2.0/pre_gtkrc', however some of the colors are read from the system defaults at runtime and used to substitute the placeholder values each time a user launches Inkscape.app. You can override the bundled GTK+ theme with a custom '~/.gtkrc-2.0' file, but for Inkscape 0.47 (as downloaded and installed from sourceforge.net) you will be limited to using themes based on 'Clearlooks'. There is no GUI to edit these resource files - you will have to use a plain text editor and look up the correct color values yourself.
