how do i rename a colour

Asked by P&K Signs

im a sign writer and my printer plotter recognises the colour "CutContour" as a cutting line and does not print it, but uses it to vinyl cut. I can't seem to find how to add a swatch and assign a name to it or rename a standard colour. Is it possible to do what I require and if so how?

Do your plotter use SVG directly? Maybe under 'color' you mean 'layer'?

Cheers, Oleg

No, its a roland, the rip software is looking for a colour by the name of "CutContour" exactly. It can be any colour I want but it needs to be a spot colour with this name. Easy to do in corel and illustrator, but I'm looking for an alternative to these.

Sorry, my experience is not enough.
I face only with plotters, not cutters (I often print CAD designs), and
layers is more then enough for that.

Does your plotter use only 'CutContour' color for cutting?
I mean - maybe you can separate drawings from cut contour onto separate
layers?

regards, Oleg

No , has to be a named spot colour (not process).

Workaround: use an obscure color with a unique name for this purpose, then save your svg file and use a fing-and-replace operation replace the name of teh obscure color with your funny name. in Linux, you could use the program "sed" for this operation. In Windows, you can prpbably use a "replace all" operation in Wordpad or something.

Arch Dude's suggestion is slightly flawed as Inkscape uses RGB colours rather than named colours. You'll have to look up the "colour:#RRGGBB" and replace it with "colour:CutContour". Remember to post if it works for you.
