Paint Bucket isn't working

When I select the paint bucket the solid fill isn't working. It only fills w/ the gradient option. The stroke applies but the fill doesn't. It says in the bottom message bar that "area filled path with 10 nodes created? What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

The paint bucket uses the last used style as a default behavior. Thus If you used a gradient for another object just before using the bucket, the bucket fill is a gradient too.
To change it afterwards, select the path created by the bucket and modify its fill color with the Fill and Stroke dialog (Shift+Ctrl+F).
You can also change the bucket fill default colors with File>Inkscape Preferences>Tools>Paint Bucket, so that this tool always uses its own colors.
