Extensions not working

None of the extensions are working and some of them give me this messsage;

The fantastic lxml wrapper for libxml2 is required by inkex.py and therefore this extension. Please download and install the latest version from http://cheeseshop.python.org/pypi/lxml/, or install it through your package manager by a command like: sudo apt-get install python-lxml

I have absoultely no idea what that means.

I have searched the fourms and internet and this has seen some attention but most of the dialog is very technical and impossible for non-programmer types to understand. I have version .47 and i am running an intel mac with snow leopard. Is there a fix for my problem?
