Please provide information about your OS and Inkscape version (apparently you are using Inkscape 0.48.1).

Crash reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.1, 0.48.2 and 0.48+devel r10736 on Mac OS X 10.5.8 (i386)
The console message about the parser error only happens in Inkscape 0.48.1, not later versions, but Inkscape crashes with each of them:

Program received signal EXC_BAD_ACCESS, Could not access memory.
Reason: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at address: 0x00000000
