Hello Chris,
My immediate plan, for the next month or so, is that I would like to implement the line style as you have done, and I would also like to introduce a new (optional) input parameter to specify the overall size of the entire image. While I am doing that, I will look at the issue of BLOCK and INSERT usage. I am not a big fan of implementing this feature because it is kind of like re-inventing the wheel. It has already been done by other people, for example, QCad, which is free. I guess my question is, do you have any examples of the use of BLOCKS, that is a simple example where it is easy to see what is going on?
Other than that, my long term plan is that I would like to support this extension as much as I can until the release of Inkscape 0.47, at which time I think I would rather have someone else do it.
