Isn't this bug the same as the much older bugs:

Bug 168320 (sf1653924): References to non-installed fonts break text toolbar (can't change font; font size display errors)

Bug 168161 (sf1618490): font name dropdown steals focus, doesn't close after selection is made

I see that this bug has been milestoned.. How is the progress going? Installing a new font shouldn't be needed, but both Inkscape and GTK seems to assume a default font named "Sans". On Windows the current default sans-serif font is "Tahoma".
