Now I can confirm that it is definitely going to work! I've got it working at home already, but so far only for scaling. It also needs to be fixed for stretching, skewing, etc. The hardest part has been tackled, but it will probably take a few weeks before I can commit a patch.
However, there's an important design decision to make. Please have a look at the attachment and let me know what you'd prefer.
