Should FAQ link be adapted to website FAQ, not (outdated) Wiki FAQ?

Asked by Hachmann

Sorry to ask this here - I wasn't sure if this is an Inkscape-docs thing or an Inkscape thing.

Currently, the link inside Inkscape goes to the Wiki page http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ, which has not been updated regularly, in contrast to the same, actively translated, FAQ on the Website: https://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/

I guess my question is: Should we adapt the link, or the Wiki, or both?

(Martin repeatedly said he intended the main website to contain all relevant info. Brynn and I are maintaining the FAQ there, while the other one is currently unmaintained.)

If you're not the one to ask, please direct me where I should put this.

Thank you!

This question was expired because it remained in the 'Open' state without activity for the last 15 days.

Sorry, this 'poking' wasn't intended - but yes, I still need an answer, I guess...

I'd say both. The links must go to the website, and the wiki should redirect lost users, or at least show a notice about the page deprecation.
None of the two tasks is related to inkscape-docs, but I'm going to update the links in the UI and translations (no need to add a new report).

Thanks for noticing the bug!

Okay, then I'm going to add a notice to the Wiki page. Thank you very much, Nicolas!

JFYI, the new link no longer needs to be translated. https://inkscape.org/learn/faq/ (without en/) will be automatically redirected when a translation exists.

Yes, I know.

And with version 1.4, it will even stay in the language indicated by the user's cookie/session/browser preference, so that the menu will be the correct one (blanks filled in with English pages/links), even if the requested page doesn't exist for that language.

The Help>FAQ menu now links to the website (rev. 14355).
While I was at it, I also updated the man and keys links for German, Greek, Japaneese, and Chineese_TW languages.

I've updated the Wiki now to include notices for all languages, also asking for help with translation if missing or incomplete. I really hope everyone will be okay with that...
