Different colors for the notes

Asked by Ricardo Barra

Hi,

I used to love the old Sticky Notes tool, and I think Indicator Stickynotes is a good alternative, but I wonder if you could add the functionality to have notes in different colors, in order to clasify them. Besides, it would be great if there was a keyboard shortcut to show / hide all the notes, or maybe just single-click over the indicator icon for that, and right click for options. Regards.

Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion. When I do become free (not anytime soon, unfortunately), I will work on making categories for notes. This way, you'll be able to control the looks of different categories and select a category for each note. I hope this is what you were looking for.

Thanks.

Hi, Umang.

Thanks a lot for implementing this feature! Now, how can I change the color of the notes? I thought I'd be able to have notes of different colors, so I could clasify them. Is that posible? When I updated my operating system and then restarted, now I see my notes are yellow (they used to be white). Can I have different colors for different notes?

One more thing. Is it possible to have a shortcut to show / hide all the notes, just like the ols sticky notes program?

And one last thing: I'd like to make a little, very small but grateful donation to this proyect. How can I do that? Regards!

Hi Ricardo,

Unfortunately, when Indicator Stickynotes got the categories features, it didn't import your previous color settings. So you'll have to set them again. If you click on the indicator (the stickynotes icon on the panel) and then click Settings, you can add new categories and modify their individual settings.

I'm still debating whether to have a global shortcut to show all/hide all. However, for now, you can middle click the indicator (if you use a touchpad, see this link: http://askubuntu.com/questions/130393/how-to-configure-the-touchpad-middle-click) to show all or hide all.

Thanks so much for wanting to make a donation! I'm glad you like Indicator Stickynotes. However, I don't accept donations at the moment. Although it is unlikely, if I do decide to accept donations, I'll let you know.

Hi Umang,

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea to leave the middle click as THE way to show / hide the notes. It's just my opinion, but one of the fileds I'm more confident with, it's usability and accesibility ;)

If you let me suggest something, I would rather show the notes with a single left click, and then hide them with another left click. Then you could access the rest of the options or settings using the right click.

Regards!

Thanks for your feedback! Fortunately or unfortunately, one of the consequences of standardizing system tray icons to indicators in Ubuntu was that all indicators give you menus on left-click. So that is impossible.

I agree that middle-click isn't the best way to do this. I'm taking the something-is-better-than-nothing approach for now. I will consider adding a global keyboard in addition to the middle-click later. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. I appreciate hearing back from people who use Indicator Stickynotes!

Thanks.
