System Load Indicator

understanding Load display

I will have nothing running in the foreground. The CPU, Disk, Network and Memory are all very low. Yet, the Load is at the top of the chart. What exactly is Load and how is it calculated?

Hi William,

some more information about computer load: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Load_%28computing%29. You could check whether the load reported by the top command line program or the gnome system monitor is similar to the values reported by the indicator.
