Recommended behavior for irc clients

Asked by Leon

In the wiki there are two "Recommended behavior" items. For e-mail clients and instant messaging clients.
But I couldn't find anything about irc clients. I thought about using the python bindings for creating a plugin for weechat (www.weechat.org), a irc client.

But I don't know exactly what the seperate items should be in the indicator-applet and what they should do if an user clicks on them. I'm not very good with interaction design so I thought I should ask it here first before I create something.

Thanks in advance!

I think the idea would be to display personal messages (PM)'s as indicator items, and have the IRC app as the server item. Clicking on the indicator item, i.e. the PM, would display the message in weechat.

I think online/offline notifications, as seen by IM applications, would be more of an annoyance for the user rather than help.

Thanks ukblacknight!

So every message in weechat directed to the user (or highlight item) will create a new pm.
I'll try to set something up like that this week.
