FAQ #493 gpsd support doesn't work for my GT-120

Asked by Stefan Lehmann

I followed FAQ #493 to get gpsd support with my GT-120 and my Eee PC with Ubuntu 9.10. Unfortunately my GT-120 isn't recognized by the navman driver. igotu2gpx is working fine and I receive device info with 'igotu2gpx info'. My GT-120 has firmware version 3.05. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When you try to load the navman driver and to add the device to the
driver, is there anything in the syslog (compare the output of "dmesg"
before and after)?

Hi Michael

Thanks for your answer. I get the following info in the syslog:

without navman driver:
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hdc and address 2
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice

with navman driver:
usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial
USB Serial support registered for generic
usbcore: registered new interface driver usbserial_generic
usbserial: USB Serial Driver core
USB Serial support registered for navman
usbcore: registered new interface driver navman
usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hdc and address 3
usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
navman 2-2:1.0: navman converter detected
usb 2-2: navman converter now attached to ttyUSB0

it looks like it is connected to ttyusb0, which seems to be ok. I
can't check at the moment what this gives for me as I'm on vacation,
but will do this when I'm back.

Hi Michael

Thanks in advance and nice vacation as well as merry christmas and happy new year! My aim is to use i-gotU also as a GPS mouse with tangoGPS. But at the moment the i-gotU device isn't recognized by tangoGPS.

I'm glad to hear from you later, have fun and best regards,

Stefan

registering the navman driver and plugging in the tracker gives:
[44309.610046] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using ohci_hcd and address 4
[44309.837186] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
[44309.844136] navman 2-2:1.0: navman converter detected
[44309.844249] usb 2-2: navman converter now attached to ttyUSB0

my /etc/default/gpsd contains:
START_DAEMON="true"
DAEMON_OPTS="-F /var/run/gpsd.sock"
DEVICES=""
USBAUTO="true"

With this config, gpsmon receives packages and tangogps works.
