User's guide

Asked by Altosax

Hello,
I am new here. I struggled with CL on Ubuntu a bit and know that some things happen if you follow the rules.
But, is there a a brief way to explain to a user (not a programmer or specialist) how the igotu120 can communicate with Leopard.
It is unclear for somebody who can just start up the terminal.
Any text on the net which explains this to us? I see folders called clebs, build, external, data, src, tools but no text with the 'hows'?
Can somebody help me?
Thanks,
Peter

Try the Mac OS X installer from http://launchpad.net/igotu2gpx/trunk/0.2.2/+download/igotu2gpx-0.2.2.dmg and tell me how it goes.

Hello Michael,
I appreciate very much yor answer.
It is a pitty that Launchpad doesn't show its possibilities somehow
more clearly to non programming end users.
I suppose that you have sent me what is so called a GUI solution (is
that so?).
Well I tried on these Macs to open the program stand alone (with no
igotu attached):

MAC 1: 10.5.7 2GHz Intel Alu Macbook
MAC 2 (this Mac): 10.5.7 2,4 Ghz Intel Alu iMac 20"
MAC 3: 10.4.11 White iMac Power PC G5 (is not supported)
MAC 4: 10.5.7 2,4 Ghz White Macbook

The outcome is:

... in all cases, unfortunately.
maybe I need to attach the igotu GT-120??
I will recieve it only one of these days by post.

Please let me help for writing a manual in Dutch/English as soon as
this program works on all Macs, (but it doesn't do so on my Macs,
unfortunately).
Thanks,
Peter

So what is actually happening? Can you open the dmg, start the program, see the gui, connect to the device? Where does it break down?

Hello Michael,
I quits after 1/10 of a second when I double click the program itself.
No interface, nothing.
Only this:

That's it on 3 Macs,
Best regards,
Peter

Can you open a command line and execute the gui with "open /Applications/igotu2gpx.app" or "/Applications/igotu2gpx.app/Contents/MacOS/igotugui"? Maybe it gives some error messages this way...

Hmm, could you take a look at https://answers.launchpad.net/igotu2gpx/+question/72434 to see whether your replies show up correctly (there is no text after "It feels as if there is only a small problem:", and I think the same was also the case for earlier replies)?

Hi Peter,

now we are getting somewhere :-).

Could you run the following from a command line and then try again
(needs to be on one line):
  install_name_tool -change /usr/local/lib/libusb-0.1.4.dylib @executable_path/../Frameworks/libusb-0.1.4.dylib /Applications/igotu2gpx.app/Contents/FrameWorks/libigotu.1.dylib

This should help to find the library.

Hello again,

This is the result:
Last login: Thu May 28 17:01:55 on ttys000
d54C158EE:~ peter$ install_name_tool -change /usr/local/lib/
libusb-0.1.4.dylib @executable_path/../Frameworks/libusb-0.1.4.dylib /
Applications/igotu2gpx.app/Contents/FrameWorks/libigotu.1.dylib
-bash: install_name_tool: command not found
d54C158EE:~ peter$

Is this what it should be.
Best regards,
Peter

Seems like install_name_tool is part of apples developer tools. Ok, the
easiest way out of this is for you to wait 2 hours until I get home and
make a new dmg :-). I will post again when it is ready.

I actually hope that no manual will be necessary. If there are things that are not clear in the interface/usability wise, please file a bug. The program is only supposed to transfer trackpoints without much hassle :-).

Hello Michael,
I finally got the device too.
It works with your program!!
Perfect match with Routebuddy.
Only one small request. Could you also add a function to empty the
track memory.
Now I need a PC to do so, this is the only (really important)
parameter missing.
Of coarse, if we can change any of these parameters would be the most
beautifull thing. Is this impossible?
Thanks,
Peter

Hi Peter,

at least purge support will be in the next version. This just needs some
careful testing, I will post when there is something ready.
