Window list

Asked by Aliaksandr Dzeshchanka

It's a mostly gnome feautre request, but Ubuntu can help with it for better usability. It would be great to have a window list in window, like "windows menu" applet but not menu, just a window to bind some key-sequence to bring it on and to switch for some window from this list.

Are you talking about switching between windows - like ALT+TAB?

Yes. But the only difference is to make it usable without any key pressing, just binging mouse action "left bottom corner" to this window switcher - and voila. I've did so when working under OS/2 and it's extremally convinient. There is very big-and-slowly Process Manager in GNOME, but it even do not allowing task switching. Tasklist in bottom panel like it did in default Ubuntu settings isn't very convinient for 10+ processes, common task list will be much more usable. I see it like it did in Window Menu applet, but in different window. Maybe, you've seen OS/2 Ctrl+Esc window list for understanding?

I am not entirely sure what you mean. But this is not the correct place for such a discussion.

If you would like to know if something like this already exists you might browse the Ubuntu Forums and ask a question there. You might also try asking a question in the Ubuntu project on Launchpad, or in the IRC channel #Ubuntu

You could also try asking or suggesting this in a mailing list.
Alternatively you could program it yourself -> I would suggest using libwnck and python - or your preferred language.

Does that solve your question?

Can you help with this problem?
