Workspace switcher does not function properly in GNOME with multiple monitors when multiple rows defined for virtual desktop switching
When you have two or more monitors, GNOME workspace switcher does not function properly in composited mode and in a noncomposited mode it works until you logout and log back in. I believe this problem has been reported several times in the history of Ubuntu project and a lot of other distributions but no solution yet to the problem.
As far as I've gathered the bug is in GNOME level and not distribution specific, but I have quite a long track record of being annoyed of the existence of this bug. Since 2001 I have used a dual monitor setup on multiple systems, fvwm2 did not have issues at this as I was using that for a long time until around 2005 that I finally decided that perhaps I could give GNOME and others a go, but the bug has been around since about the same time.
My main reason for continuing with GNOME has been due to best integration and only annoyance is this one, but it is continuous as every morning I have to fix it by removing my both workspace switchers and recreating them and adjusting the number of rows back to 3 that I like to use.
My preferred current setup is two screens with both having 3x3 virtual desktop. It simply is the most useful for myself.
