hp photosmart c6324 wont' copy

When I press the copy button on the printer I get the error message (on the printer display):

To copy this printer has to be connected to a PC with HP software installed.

(The original error message is in german, I hope I got the translation right). The PC initiated copy function for this printer is not supported. Does that mean I can only copy using the "first scan then print" workaround? The printer is now connected via a router, would it make a difference if I connect it using usb?

Sorry for not answering for so long, I've been working late these past two days. And thank you for your suggestions.

There is a CD with the printer, but only for Windows and Mac.

I ran "hp-check -t", it gave me a lot of error messages. I installed the required packages, but one is still missing. Here is the output of "hp-check -t"

I ran "sudo aptitude install --assume-yes cupsddk cupsddk-drivers", but nothing was installed. The package cupsddk ist already installed.

I still can't copy using the copy-button on the printer, same error-message as before. Is this feature supported by hplip? If so, why doesn't it work?

Please connect your printer to window machine through USB and install given CD once.
Then try to copy.

I am able to print and scan using hplip on my linux machine.

I had a windows laptop from work (I don't own a windows computer, this is a windows free environment:) ) and installed the hp-software that came with the printer. Copying with the printers copy button worked.

I also connected the printer to my linux computer through usb, but still the copy button and the scan button on the printer won't do it.

Are these buttons supposed to work? Does hplip support these buttons? How can I find out?

The North American versions of this printer do not require a computer connection to make a copy. Perhaps this is a restriction specific to German models. I suggest you call HP's German phone support and ask them.

I give up on this. The computer has to be turned on to make a copy or a scan anyway (I got that information from many different web-sites, copy or scan without a computer won't work), so we might as well use sane to do this.
