hp office jetpro 8500 initial checking device is not working.

the printer message on screen says the initial check will take a few minutes, it is an hour now and the screen has not done anything since. it sounded as if the checks were done but nothing happened since.

Unplug both ends of the printer's power cable. Wait 1 minute and plug it in again. If another hour goes by and it still doesn't initialize, you'll need to get the printer replaced. HP doesn't offer phone support for customers on Linux, but call them at 800 474 6836 (Canada & US) and say you have a Mac and they may be willing to help you since this has nothing to do your computer. Otherwise take it back to the store and get a replacement.

From given instructions, it seem to me an hardware issue. Nothing to do with Linux\Mac or Windows.

Please run hp-check -t and post it here. I'll be able to figure out if there is any software issues.
