Detection of printer on/off status

Asked by tho

My hplip setup:
HP CLJ CM1312nfi MFP
- connected via usb on
- hp:/usb/HP_Color_LaserJet_CM1312nfi_MFP?serial=00CNB887xxxxx
- using hplip 3.9.8
- on latest gentoo linux (linux-2.6.31, udev-141, qt-4.5, cups-1.4.1, ...)

The CUPS printer queue stops the present CLJ CM1312nfi from time to time even if it is on. It happens irregularly, but mostly after some print job done or after switching power on.

And if it is switched off and on again printer queue doesn't get activated.

What's wrong with my setup? How can I keep the printer queue always on? - Thanks for any further hints.

Can you try out below modification:

(a) open the file /etc/cups/printers.conf
(b) Check for the ErrorPolicy of your particular printer model. If its stop-printer , you can modify it to retry-job.

Thanks,

A

Thanks for your hint. I changed the ErrorPolicy, however the printer still stops each time I switch the power on.

Do you have any further ideas, what the problem might be?
Thanks for any helping hints on how to troubleshoot.

I'm not quite sure why the same is happening on gentoo linux. Check the below link (if that helps you out)

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=65984

Is your printer in ready state when linux is switched on?

Thanks,

A
