How do I setup the print connection with my computer?

I just purchased an HP Officejet 6500 E709 Series All in One and followed the setup instructions except that I did connect the USB to the computer before I was supposed to. Is this why my Connectivity Settings on the Printer Status Report say that there is no connection? How do I correct this? Also, when I printed the Printer Status Report, a very small metal wheel(?) fed out of the printer along with the page. Do I need to return the printer to have it serviced?

I have a Mac OSX.

Carolyn,

Thanks for your question however the HP Linux Imaging and Printing project does not support Mac OS. For Mac OSX assistance please go to http://www.hp.com
