HP Pavilion Elite m9500t PC, linux, z3100 printer

Asked by ldarnell

I own HP Pavilion Elite m9500t PC running ubuntu jaunty, i see from this site the z2100 family is not supported for linux. prior to buying one of these, I'd like to know I can hook it up to my m9500t and print to it...but i have my doubts, unless they are incorrect. i can't seem to find anyone using linux and one of these printers. i would like to print large graphics/photos to fine art paper and canvas. would an hp print server be a solution?
thank you

The HP Color LaserJet CM2320 is supported by HPLIP.

You shouldn't have any problems on Ubuntu.

Hope this helps.

Hey Aaron,

That's an answer, but not to my question. To make it easy, let me isolate the question...

HP [printer, I am considering buying for HP] z2100, z3100 family one of these printers specifically like in the subject line..., here's the question:

I'd like to know I can hook it up to my m9500t and print to it?

the answer to this question would beL

A: no, can't be done

B: yes....here's how.... [see above] would an hp print server be the solution?

C: i don't understand your question

D: here's a printer that does work under linux....

thanks,
Larry

Larry,

Sorry not sure how I did that. Anyway, HPLIP only supports several of the DesignJet models. You can look at the entire support list for the HP DesignJet devices here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/designjet.html

It does not appear that the z2100 or z3100 series devices are supported.

Sorry for the confusion.

ok...[sigh]

let's return to my original posting...

here i ask:

I own HP Pavilion Elite m9500t PC running ubuntu jaunty, i see from this site the z2100 family is not supported for linux. prior to buying one of these, I'd like to know I can hook it up to my m9500t and print to it...but i have my doubts, unless they are incorrect. i can't seem to find anyone using linux and one of these printers. i would like to print large graphics/photos to fine art paper and canvas. would an hp print server be a solution?

you've given me an option for a printer that works, but not related to my question

you've acknowledged the printer i am asking about isn't supported...

well, we're almost there....

would an hp print server maybe be a workaround or should i buy a canon printer that will work instead of hp?

how about that?

thanks
Larry

Larry,

HPLIP doesn't support the device and using an HP print server wouldn't change the support level.

The Linux Foundation might have more information on another driver or workaround, you could check here:

http://www.openprinting.org/printer_list.cgi?make=HP

But I don't see the series you are looking for listed...
