hp-align (hpcups 3.9.8) on hp deskjet d2600-series (hp deskjet d2660)

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 on my box. In order to get my new printer running, I removed all hplib*-packages from my machine and installed the newest version of hplip - 3.9.8, because Ubuntu's hplip-release 3.9.2 doesn't support my HP deskjet D2660 printer.

The installation went fine and the printer works. But the quality of the prints is bad. The characters are blurred.

So I tried to fix the problem by using the hp-align dialogue from the hplip-toolbox. The printer prints a sheet with lines from A to I. hplip-align asks for the best results in every line fom A to H. The drop-down list for line I doesn't contain any values to choose, it is empty.

If I finish the process by clicking the finish button, the printer prints another sheet of calibration lines. But the problem resists. The prints are unimproved.

Aaron,

I have the same problem with my new HP d2660, working with Ubuntu 8.04
Printing goes very slow en all the black characters are grey shadowed
I have tested the printer on a windows XP machine and there he works fabulous.
