PSC1510 scanner not working

I have downloaded and installed hplip, the printer works fine, but when I press the scan button on my printer, nothing happens.

HPLIP does not support pushing the scan button on the printer to PC scanning. If you'd like to scan run xsane and then click scan.

If you still have a problem please run hp-check -t and post the output.

Is there any way to crop/change the items I'm scanning? I will be using it for pictures, and they will need to be cropped/adjusted.

You can crop the image using the GIMP application. Most linux distros provide GIMP. Although for any GIMP questions you can get more assistance from the GIMP project.
