Error 290* when using fax machine

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500. when I attempt to send a long distance fax, I receive a printout that states " a communication error occurred during the fax transmission" and the Result on the side of the page says. Error 290*.

The HP Linux Imaging and Printing project only provides assistance with the HPLIP driver. This question is hardware related and we do not provide assistance with any hardware issues.
