After I removed the existing source and ran it in my home directory, it went through and let me configure, but I got stuck here:

RESTART OR RE-PLUG IS REQUIRED
------------------------------
If you are installing a USB connected printer, and the printer was plugged in when you
started this installer, you will need to either restart your PC or unplug and re-plug in
your printer (USB cable only). If you choose to restart, run this command after
restarting: hp-setup (Note: If you are using a parallel connection, you will have to
restart your PC. If you are using network/wireless, you can ignore and continue).

Restart or re-plug in your printer (r=restart, p=re-plug in*, i=ignore/continue, q=quit) : i

PRINTER SETUP

Would you like to setup a printer now (y=yes*, n=no, q=quit) ? y
Please make sure your printer is connected and powered on at this time.
-error: No output seen in over 300 sec... (Is the CD-ROM/DVD source repository enabled? It shouldn't be!)
error: hp-setup failed. Please run hp-setup manually.

Did someone run into this issue? Please help

It looks like the installer timed out because of no user response.

To configure the printer try running:

sudo hp-setup

Thanks.

If ping can't reach the printer there may be a local internet connection issue. Can you verify that the printer is on the network and your network configuration is correct?

Hi Aaron,

Actually I was able to ping:
tsp0001@desktop1:~$ ping 192.168.1.102
PING 192.168.1.102 (192.168.1.102) 56(84) bytes of data.

64 bytes from 192.168.1.102: icmp_seq=4 ttl=60 time=2.50 ms

However, it is too much of a hassle. I connected back my parallel port. Can you or someone please help me with configuring the same printer on Parallel port?

I know it is working fine - I have Windows XP installed on dual boot as a back door to some of my problems.

Thanks

Try running:

hp-makeuri 192.168.1.102

and post the output?

Configuring parallel can be rather difficult. You can look over this document for things to check for:

http://hplipopensource.com/node/217

Sorry I couldn't help more.

Thank you very much. I will try that.

Howevere, since I could not get it print over the network port, I was doing a lot of reading on Internet and digging for HP LaserJet 4Plus printing on parallel port, I noticed there is PCL driver out there - Print Control Language

While configuring on parallel port - everything went ok, but it would not print: "W2 Invalid pers"

Maybe we can fix it from parallel port end? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Aaron,

Thank you very much, it works now. I really appreciate your time and support.

What I think messed me up - parallel port approach. But we pulled it through. I would not be able to accomplish that without your help. You are great.

Thanks again for your help and God bless you.
