misaligned double side printing

Asked by scott_audio

CP1215 color laser, kubuntu 9.04, kde 4.3, openoffice 3.0.1... all updates, latest firmware, drivers, etc. When i print pages with equal margins all around, even numbered pages are always offset by about .25 inches. If I print double-sided, 2 letter pages with only a page border, for example, holding it up to the light, the top and bottom horizontal lines are off by .25 inches. It's as though the page is not properly centered on the long edge. If I print brochure, landscape, one side is off by .25 inches and can't be folded correctly, because the text doesn't line up... this is hard to explain, I hope that describes the problem well enough. Any help would be appreciated... i've tried every setting I can find, have tried to align the margins manually in the ppd, with no success.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I did a fresh install today of everything, and I am using unmodified OO install, just to elminate the possibility that I may have messed something up.

I applied page border and printed portrait page (with no brochure applied) and it prints fine but I have to put the paper in backwards for the second side (rotate it 180, which I've not had to do previously) when I print a brochure (landscape 2-up in booklet order), and I rotate the pages to print the reverse side and the page borders line up (when paper is held long-side left to right, the vertical lines line up), but the text is of course in the wrong direction. I hope that explains better and doesn't contribute to causing confusion.

I have found an issue with HPLIP 3.9.8 and duplex printing on the CP1215. I'm looking into a solution although it wont be available until the next release. Once I can test duplex printing more on this device I'll also look into the margins to be sure they are correct.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Aaron
