HPLIP gui on RHEL4

Asked by pherde

I am trying to install HPLIP 3.9.8 on RHEL4.6. I tried the automatic installation, but the gui does not come up with I run hp-setup.
I try to run the custom installation and install the gui (qt4) and cannot due to missing pyqt4-dbus. I have tried to install pyqt4 (and thus SIP) but cannot because I don't have qr4.

What packages do I need to install to get the HPLIP gui to work?

We do not have an easy install path for RHEL 4. The automatic installer does not support it. However we do make an RPM for RHEL 5 which you can get here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

For RHEL 4 you can follow this as a guide, and at the configure step enable/disable the settings which will change the dependencies required.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. Since I cannot upgrade to RHEL 5, I guess I'll have to muddle along without the GUI.
