printing test page and documents from OpenOffice fine; printing a screencatch page and/or email notice, nearly unreadable due to lightness of characters, hardly any contrast.

Asked by diedericr

HP1005 LaseJet printer, mandriva powerpack 2009.1;
Had printer looked at becuase of 'clanking noise' when printing started. Before that printer worked fine. Now printing emails and or documents using a 'screen catch program' contrast so small that text is illegible; printing documents from openoffice fine. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Please run hp-check -t and post the output.

I'm not clear what a "screen catch program" is. If you print from say; kate, gedit, firefox does it print correctly?

Hi Aaron,
attached out-put of hp-check -t.

Printing from firefox, openoffice no problem; text is readable, contrast
text paper strong, ie the letters are 'dark black'.

Printing from Mozilla Thunderbird, or using a program like 'Okular' (a
universal document viewer) the text is very light, so little contrast
between background (the paper) and the text.

Thanks,
Diederic

This sounds like an application specific issue. Different applications handle the printing variables differently. If it's printing from some applications (firefox and openoffice are good examples) this indicates that the printer and HPLIP are working correctly. There may be some other issue with thunderbird or Okular that is causing your printing issues. If possible you may want to contact them directly for a possible resolution.

Thanks for your support of HPLIP--we appreciate it.
