level of cartridge shown as 0 whereas it is 54%

Asked by zebul666

I have a PhotoSmart C3180 with cups 1.3.10, hplip 3.9.4b (it's the same with 3.9.6b), linux kernel 2.6.30 on archlinux
i had a cartridge shown as Health: Failed in hp-levels.
So i replace it (HP 338) with a used one (in another printer HP Desktop 5740) .
this cartridge is said full at 54% on the HP Desktop 5740 with another cups on ubuntu 9.04 (other pc)
but hp-levels show it at 0% when i insert that cartridge in the Photsmart C3180.

so my guess is it's a hardware problem. though i am not sure because this happen on 2 different pc with different linux and software
i see a similar post https://answers.launchpad.net/hplip/+question/20299
so i am almost sure the answer is hardware problem.
anyway to fix it ?

Please run hp-check -t and hp-levels and post the output from both.

Thanks!

Note: hp-check can be run in three modes:
1. Compile-time check mode (-c or --compile): Use this mode before compiling the HPLIP supplied tarball (.tar.gz or .run) to
determine if the proper dependencies are installed to successfully compile HPLIP.
2. Run-time check mode (-r or --run): Use this mode to determine if a distro supplied package (.deb, .rpm, etc) or an already built
HPLIP supplied tarball has the proper dependencies installed to successfully run.
3. Both compile- and run-time check mode (-b or --both) (Default): This mode will check both of the above cases (both compile- and
run-time dependencies).

The ink level is an approximate level given by the cartridge. When a cartridge is taken from one printer and put into another printer hp-level will not give the correct ink level.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
