How can I get alignment page print on HP Officejet 6500?

Machine is brand new out of box, paper is loaded in tray, ink cartridges are installed, and power is on. Instructions say it takes 10 minutes; Have tried several times; Makes several noises;It is like it cannot pick up a pc of fresh paper from the paper supply tray.It should print out alignment test page according to instructions. Please advise. Thanks! James G.
